About Rocky & Linda Rhodes

Continuing a family legacy of building excellence

Richard “Rocky” Rhodes and Linden “Lindy” Rhodes are partners and owners of Dusty Rhodes Homes, continuing the family business their father, founder Erwin “Dusty” Rhodes, started in Overland Park in 1966.

Rocky has spent his career in the family building business, working alongside homeowners through custom home builds and remodels throughout the Kansas City metro. Lindy has also played an integral role in the continued growth and operation of the family business, helping carry the Dusty Rhodes Homes tradition into its next generation.

Together, Rocky and Lindy continue the legacy their father began more than 60 years ago, committed to building quality custom homes and creating lasting relationships with the families they serve.

The Ongoing Work of Dusty Rhodes Homes

Setting the standard for custom home building

For over 60 years, families across the Kansas City Metro have trusted Dusty Rhodes Homes to build their homes the same way the company was built: on a handshake, a promise kept, and a plan everyone agreed to before the first shovel hit the ground. That commitment has carried the company through the launch of the Allure Luxury Series and into a third generation of family leadership, and it's the reason clients keep coming back for more projects.

What to Know Before Building a Custom Home

Understanding the costs and decisions that go into your custom home

Building a custom home is a significant investment of both time and money. Understanding how pricing is developed, what can affect your home's site cost, and how changes are handled throughout the process can help you make informed decisions along the way. Here's what you can expect when you partner with us:
  • Your home's price is based on the plans, specifications, and selections. Once the drawings and specifications are complete, we can obtain pricing from our subcontractors and develop a detailed estimate for your home. The final cost depends on your home's size and design, the materials and finishes you select, and the specific requirements of your homesite.
  • Your homesite can affect your project cost. Grading, utility connections, excavation, drainage, and other site conditions can vary from one property to another. We evaluate the homesite against your plans and identify potential site-related costs as we develop your project.
  • The pre-construction meeting brings the details together. Before construction begins, we review the drawings, specifications, budget, and construction plans with you so everyone is working from the same information before we move forward.
  • You have visibility into your budget throughout construction. We document your selections and approved changes throughout the building process on our dedicated project communication platform, helping you understand how decisions affect your home's overall cost.
  • We price and approve changes before we move forward. If you decide to make a change during construction, our team will review the cost and any potential impact on the project before approving the change and incorporating it into the work.
  • The lot you choose and the home you want to build are closely connected. A property that looks perfect at first may have site conditions that affect the home's design or budget, which is why we evaluate the homesite alongside your plans.

Frequently Asked Questions About Choosing a Kansas City Community

Dusty Rhodes Homes understands the investment that custom homes require, and we want you to have all of the information you need to make confident decisions. Take a look at these answers to commonly asked questions from prospective custom homeowners like you.

Do you build on lots outside your listed communities?

Yes. While the communities listed above are some of the areas where we currently build, we also consider privately owned lots and other communities throughout the Kansas City metro. If you have a specific property or location in mind, share it with our team, and we can help determine whether it is within our service area and whether the homesite suits your plans.

Can I work with Dusty Rhodes Homes if I already own land?

Yes. If you already own a property, we can start by evaluating the homesite and discussing the type of home you would like to build. You do not need to have a floor plan selected before contacting us. Our team can help you understand how the property may work with your plans and what factors to consider as you begin the custom home process. You can contact us to start the conversation

When will I know what it will cost to build on a particular lot?

We can discuss site costs that may affect your budget while you consider the property. We prepare a detailed estimate after we complete the home’s plans and specifications and seek bids for the work.

Can I talk with Dusty Rhodes Homes before I find a lot?

Yes. You can begin with an initial conversation while you are still deciding where to build. Tell us which areas interest you and what kind of home you hope to build there.

Can a community require me to use a particular builder?

Some communities reserve certain homesites for specific builders. If you find a lot you like, we can help you identify whether a builder restriction applies before you make plans to build with us there.
